Congratulations on your pregnancy journey! Growing a new baby is exciting and exhausting, being a parent myself I can relate. You have chosen to capture the very special fleeting time with your baby and to forever remember them in that perfect newborn phase. My air conditioned studio is a warm and welcoming place designed just for newborn photography. Newborns are my passion and I consider myself truly blessed to spend time with your little miracle. I cannot wait to meet you all and capture some memories. Please take some time to read through the following information as you prepare yourself and your family. Looking forward to meeting with you, Eve
Before you leave If you have a short drive (less than 30 mins), please give your baby a really good long feed before you leave home, tickle their toes and try to keep them awake until you are ready to leave. If you have a longer drive then you can plan on giving bub a really good long feed once you arrive. If you have the energy and time giving baby a bath in the morning before coming can be a great way to not only get that gorgeous fluffy hair but also to get them nice and tired. I recommend organic coconut oil for any dry skin, but I can always perfect your babies skin in photoshop. Dress your baby in an outfit that is very easy to take off, without a singlet (depending on the weather of course). When you arrive at the studio we will remove babies clothes and wrap them before we start. Feeding We are breastfeeding friendly and you are welcome to feed in our private studio. If bottle feeding please bring a few spares (we have a kettle and microwave on hand) as bubs is often hungrier than normal during the session. Sessions last between 2-4 hours, depending on how sleepy and settled your baby is. The easiest way to ensure a sleepy baby is to breastfeed/bottlefeed off and on. If you have a dummy please bring it along. Even if you haven’t used one or don’t intend to, just for the 2 hours that I’m posing it usually really helps. If you don’t happen to have one, I keep unopened dummies here in the studio, however if you really prefer that we don’t use one, that’s fine as well! Pooping It is normal and totally fine for baby to poop or pee on my backdrops (or anywhere else) during naked poses. It happens more often than not. I wash all of my backdrops after each session. Pack a spare change of clothes for yourself and bub just in case there are any little accidents and a few extra nappies. What to wear For Baby Dress bub in loose clothing that is simple to take off without pulling layers over bubs head. No tight socks or singlets that may mark babies skin and wake baby when taking them off. You don't need to pack anything for bub to wear during the session. I have an extensive collection of clothing, wraps, hats, headbands and props. For Mum and Dad Photographing the love between you and your baby is pure magic. I recommend using our studio bed as a lovely comfortable place for your family sessions, especially when you have young siblings. Wear comfortable lightweight clothing and layers, as the temperature of the studio can be quite warm (for the comfort of your baby). Be sure that your nails are clean as they will make their way into the images. Also, rest assured, I aim to photograph using flattering angles and light to bring out the natural beauty in your family. Dads: A good option is a tight fitting v-neck t-shirt or a collared shirt that is casual but dressy. Shirts should be a solid colour, with no large logos or patterns. Mum: I have a selection of dresses that Mum can wear (most of them are feeding friendly too). Just ask me at the session and I will show you the collection. Otherwise I recommend keeping your design simple and the colours neutral - white, tan, blush all work great. Your new baby is the star of the show and we dont want distracting patterns or loud colours. For Siblings Including older siblings in your newborn’s portraits is the perfect way to document this fleeting time in your lives. We will take individual photo’s of siblings during the session as well. Siblings especially those under the age of 3 can sometimes be unsettled by having a new baby at home and can be unpredictable during the photoshoot. Almost always you will end up with a gorgeous image of the children even if it doesn’t seem like it. Sister(s): Clean and natural hair is always gorgeous. Nail’s should also be clean. Brother(s): Jeans and plain t-shirt are always cute. Shoes off is best for photos. I aim to photograph siblings early in the session as they often get bored quickly (especially under 3). I recommend bringing along some of their favourite toys and books or having a phone for them to watch. For very young and bored siblings it is handy to have another adult with you that can take them for a walk or home if they are very restless. Bribery can work wonders for little ones that just aren't in the mood. Keep in mind that lollies make messes and have dye in them that stains mouths and clothes. Usually this backfires and all they want to do is eat instead of pay attention to me. I suggest keeping the goodies in your bag or car until after we’ve finished. A small healthy snack is always great to have on hand though. Something that can be quickly eaten if they get those hunger pangs, cut up carrots or apples, dry crackers, sultanas are all great options. The most important factor during your session is your babies safety. The poses that I do are all natural and comfortable for your newborn. Before your session take a little time to go through the lookbooks or my social media instagram or facebook and screen shot a few of your favourite images to give me an idea of the style you like. Illness Just as important as the weather is that everyone being photographed be feeling 100%. Any sign of illness please ensure that you let me know and we will book in a reschedule date. Payment Payment can either be made with cash at your session or I can send you an invoice. The invoice will be sent after your session and can be paid either with credit card, direct deposit or paypal. Final Note
Remember to bring along; Milk Nappies Dummy (if you are using one) Water and healthy non coloured snacks for you and the kids I have chosen to NOT have tea/coffee facilities or hot water on hand in the studio. The studio is often a buzz with busy toddlers and safety is my first priority. If a morning coffee is on your mind, drop into Mount Annan marketplace on your way in for some awesome take away options. |
