We have plenty of parking available either on the driveway or street. Our air conditioned studio is located in a separate building in the front of our house. I recommend leaving the pram in the car to save on space in the studio. |
WELCOME
First Birthday sessions are one of my most favourite to photograph. One year olds are smiley, cheeky, adorable and always very busy. If we are lucky your little one wont be walking as yet but crawling almost as fast as you can run. There will be a LOT of placing baby back into the set as they prefer to explore the studio and chew anything they can get their hands on.
SLEEP
Be sure to choose a time for your session that coordinates with your babies normal sleep routine (if they have one!). If you notice that bub is usually happier in the morning then book a 10am session, if they are happier after a lunch time sleep then after lunch it is. If you can’t find the right time available message me and I will try my best to accommodate you.
TEETH
One year olds are often drooling as new teeth start to appear. If your baby is especially upset due to teeth, bring along some bonjella or baby panadol (if you are using it).
DESIGN
I have a large selection of props, backdrops and outfits that can be used during your session. Let me know before hand what colours or style you like and we can create something perfect for your little one. Have a look on my website of some recent styles for inspiration.

ABOUT THE CAKE
Firstly it is VERY common for babies to NOT like the cake, sometimes it is the sweetness, the texture or just getting their hands messy that can upset them. I do not recommend forcing the baby to get messy or putting cake all over them if they aren't doing it themselves (you will end up with a very upset baby). Of course we also get those babies that throw themselves completely into the whole session and ADORE the cake and the mess.
I recommend bringing along a small plain style cake, babies aren’t usually too fond of cream or overly sweet cakes. Bright colouring can often be a source of allergies as well as upsetting babies tummy and staining their skin. A plain sponge cake with simple icing often works very well. Coles and Woolworths have a great selection at a really good price.
The focus of the session will be your baby, not the cake so it doesn’t have to cost a fortune (but please feel free to bring along a glorious cake if you like) . It is also important that baby has had a taste of cake before the photo session. This is to make sure that allergies wont be an issue. If possible let baby taste the same sort of cake prior to the session including the icing just to be sure. Another option is, if your baby has a particular favourite food we can custom a set up just for them, we have done spaghetti and meatballs sets, watermelon sets and even a lemon set and they were all definitely a hit!
Bring along babies favourite snacks or fruit as well as some water. We can always hide some of your babies favourite snacks behind the cake and they often get very thirsty.
I have also done many sessions without the cake. We still the do the same set up and the bath fun but without all the mess. Ask me for further details if you prefer this idea.
BATH
After all the mess of the cake is the real fun, the splash bath. Babies always love this part and splash away in the tiny tub. This is a great opportunity to clean your baby up before going home and capturing them playing in water and with bubbles. This is always offered in our air conditioned studio sessions but cannot be offered outdoors.

The cake smash session is all about the birthday child, if you have other young siblings I recommend not bringing them as they will be bored and restless (let me know if you have siblings under 5 and have to bring them with you).
ILLNESS
If your one year seems to be more unsettled than usual and coming down with something let me know and we can reschedule, we don't want an upset or sick baby. If bub wakes up on the day unwell we will need to book in another date, the cake can always be popped in the freezer for a few days/weeks.

Sessions can either be held in our Mount Annan studio or in an outdoor location. I have lots of local parks that can be stunning backdrops for your session. The only difference will be the splash bath. If it is chilly we can do a bucket or bath with no water and just bubbles.
PAYMENT
Payment can either be made with cash at your session or I can send you an invoice. The invoice will be sent after your session and can be paid either with credit card, direct deposit or paypal.

You are welcome to take a couple of behind the scenes photos or video during the session (with no flash) but please don't shoot away behind me (it can be very distracting for bub and me!)

• 2 towels (bubba will be wet and messy by the end)
• A packet of wet wipes
• A change of top for Mum (in case you end up wearing cake too)
• Drink of water or juice for bubba
• Bubba’s favourite snack
• Bottle (or boobs!)
• Bonjela or Baby Panadol for sore teeth (if necessary)
• Sentimental soft toys or items to include in photo session (if you like)
• Any outfits you might like to use during the session (I have a selection for boys and girls in the studio you are welcome to use)
• A cake to smash
• Plastic bag (for bubba’s cake covered clothes)
